German pump manufacturer Wilo SE will spend $2.7 million on tools and testing instruments to equip its main North American plant in Thomasville for growth across the Americas.

Wilo USA LLC opened a 60,000-square-foot facility in the South Georgia city in 2007. The new investment will create a "substantial number" of jobs over the next few years, according to a release from Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue's office.

Mr. Perdue announced the investment July 23 after meeting with Thomas Halstrick, Wilo's CEO for North America, at the company's global headquarters in Dortmund, Germany.

Wilo makes water and sewage pumps and water-circulation systems for buildings. Its Georgia operation has revenues of $30 million and employs 60 people. The Wilo Group has 6,000 employees worldwide and reported revenues of $1.2 billion in 2009, according to the release.

Mr. Perdue returns July 24 from a business mission that included stops in the U.K., Sweden and Germany.
