Equinix Inc., which operates data centers in 35 cities around the world, has opened a $61 million center in Atlanta, its third in the city.
The Foster City, Calif.-based company's International Business Exchange data centers provide bandwidth for data transfer and a secure location where companies can maintain servers hosting their most important information.
Equinix is responding to increased demand for information services in the Atlanta area, which boasts the fourth largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the U.S., according to a company news release.
The new center downtown is in its first phase. A second phase will more than triple its hosting capacity when it opens in the first quarter of 2011.
