Kia's 2011 Sorento SUV is made only in Georgia.

Kia Motors America Inc. has issued a recall on 11,213 Sorento SUVs manufactured at the West Point, Ga. plant, citing a wiring problem that could pose a potential fire hazard.

The recall, which also includes 23,972 Kia Souls, is to repair wiring used for interior illumination. The repairs are designed to prevent heat-related damage, according to a Kia news release.

"When the lights are illuminated under certain conditions, an electrical short may occur that can result in a fire," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website.

Kia said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by the wiring problems.

Owners will be notified by first-class mail to bring their cars to a Kia dealership, where the repairs will be made free, the news release said.

Kia customers may call the consumer affairs hotline at 1-800-333-4542 for more information.

According to news reports, Chung Sung-eun, co-CEO of the South Korea-based parent company, Kia Motors Corp., resigned last week over the worldwide recall of more than 100,000 vehicles because of defective wiring.
